About

Jay Sanders, CPA/PFS, CFP®

I’ve read that 95% of business owners can’t make any usable sense of financial statements.   I get that because when I opened my first business I couldn’t either.  The experience of starting from scratch indelibly ingrained in me how empowering knowing how to use Numbers can be.  There are lots and lots of Numbers in business and your personal life but only some are relevant.  The key is to know which one’s matter, worry about them and forget the rest.

These pages are dedicated to teaching you about the “relevant numbers” in  your personal financial life and small business.

Brief bio:

I teach Financial Literacy to High Schoolers and young adults in NYC and its surrounds.  I am the former Chairman of the NYS Society of CPA’s Personal Financial Planning Committee and an active member of its Tax Division Oversight, Estate Planning and Business Exit and Succession Planning  Committees.  I’ve developed and presented numerous seminars for the Foundation for Accounting Education.  My firm specializes in personal financial planning, small business management and tax and benefit issues for closely held businesses.  I live in NYC with my wife and we have two daughters.
